Morning Light – Press Info Guide

Morning Light runs Indiana’s largest 100% free-of-charge home for individuals on hospice, second largest in the USA. We get no direct government funding. We operate on fundraising and applying for grants to keep the doors open for the terminally ill in need. We are located just off Keystone and 52nd, in the heart of Indianapolis.

Who We Are

Morning Light Home is a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has served nearly 1,000 lives since opening its doors in 2004, We run the Morning Light Home (formerly known as The Abbie Hunt Bryce Home). We provide 100% free-of-charge care for terminally ill individuals, especially those who are unhoused, low income, or alone.

The nonprofit grew from a simple vision: that no one should face life’s final journey alone or without care. Since then, the home has become a cornerstone of compassionate service in Indianapolis, supported by hundreds of volunteers, caregivers, and community partners.

We partner with more than 20 hospitals and hospice organizations to ensure every resident receives compassionate end-of-life care.

Best Practice Language

To honor the dignity of those we serve, please note:

We refer to those who live at Morning Light Home as “residents,” not patients. We are not a hospice home or facility — we are a home for individuals already enrolled in hospice care.

We exist to create a sense of belonging, dignity, and community at the end of life. Please refer to us as: Local nonprofit, Morning Light, operates the Morning Light Home.

Our History

Founded in 2004, Morning Light was established by the Visiting Nurse Service to serve individuals who couldn’t access hospice care due to unsafe housing or having no home at all, people facing financial hardship while carrying the crushing weight of a terminal diagnosis.
