Honoring Calvin: A Marine, a Musician, and a Colts Fan for Life

We honor Calvin, a resident who spent his final chapter with us, highlighting his remarkable life as a U.S. Marine, celebrating his deep love of music, and ensuring his enduring passion for the Indianapolis Colts was brought to life.

At The Abbie Hunt Bryce Home, we believe in making every day, count for those in our care. For Calvin, a resident who spent his final chapter with us, this meant honoring his remarkable life as a U.S. Marine, celebrating his deep love of music, and ensuring his enduring passion for the Indianapolis Colts was brought to life.

Calvin was a quiet man of great depth — polite and observant, with a sharp wit that often caught us by surprise. He had a deep appreciation for conversations about music, football, and college bands, and he carried with him a wisdom that only comes from a life lived fully. His gentle humor and thoughtful reflections on the world reminded us that life’s richest moments are found in the everyday connections we make with one another.

When we learned about Calvin’s dream to attend a Colts game, we knew we had to make it happen. Thanks to the generosity of our community, Calvin’s dream became reality. Sitting in Lucas Oil Stadium, wearing a Colts jersey, Calvin watched his favorite team start their 2024 season. The experience wasn’t just a game — it was a celebration of everything he loved and a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring someone’s passions, no matter where they are in life’s journey. We were lucky enough that Kyla Russell, and the team at WISH-TV, chose to cover our visit and record this magic moment forever.

Calvin’s time at The Abbie Hunt Bryce Home was brief six months but profoundly impactful. His wisdom on life, his love of music, and his ability to find joy in simple moments enriched our entire community. He reminded us that there is always time to laugh, to reflect, and to connect over shared interests — whether it’s a favorite football team or the traditions of the collage marching bands he loved so much. Calvin’s legacy will continue to inspire us.
