A Birthday Worth its Weight in Gold. St Patrick’s Day at The Morning Light Home
There are some days at Morning Light that seem to carry a little extra meaning, and this St. Patrick’s Day was one of them.
Our ethos at Morning Light is to never let an excuse to celebrate life pass us by, and St. Patrick’s Day is certainly a fixture here at the home. This year, we had something even more special to celebrate: our resident Patricia’s birthday.

With that in mind, we made sure Patricia had a birthday to remember. Kate, our Social Services Manager, created homemade clover-shaped cookies and even brought real Irish chocolate all the way from the Emerald Isle, thanks to two exchange students she recently helped visit Indiana. We also surprised Patricia with a wonderful cake and candles.
Her hospice team came in with flowers and music, and by the end of the day, she said she had never felt so loved and that her 93rd birthday was indeed her best yet. A beautiful sentiment that made our day. Patricia has an infectious smile and laugh, and it was on full display this week at the home.
A day for all.
The morning began with simple gestures. Our team moved from room to room, sharing shamrock plants and homemade cookies, bringing a touch of Irish cheer to each resident. With special thanks to the Lagan and Cullen families from Ireland for their chocolates enjoyed through the celebrations.

Outside, the snow still clung to the ground, a reminder that spring is taking its time this year—but inside, the home felt warm, bright, and full of life. It was, in its own quiet way, a little pot of gold tucked within our cozy walls.
It was also a meaningful day for our team, as we were joined by Alexis, our new Day Caregiving Manager. This was one of her first opportunities to experience the rhythm and spirit of Morning Light, and to share in the moments that define what we do alongside the dedicated, around-the-clock care our home provides.
We are so glad to have her with us as she steps into this role, supporting the end-of-life care of our residents and becoming part of this special community.
Another resident of the home, Doug, as always, brought his warmth and enthusiasm with his weekly bingo, which set the stage for Patricia’s birthday gathering. Staff, volunteers, and other residents gathered to sing “Happy Birthday,” and we marked the occasion with what turned out to be a very delicious leprechaun hat cake, a pot of golden candies, presents, and cards. Celebrating a long life on a single special day at the start of a new season for her and us all.
At Morning Light, these are the moments that matter most. A familiar game of bingo. A birthday cake surrounded by friends. Even on a snowy March day, it felt like spring had found its way inside.
