It took "Spartan" like dedication (pun firmly intended) when about two dozen Michigan State alumni and family members cleaned up the Pennwood Place and Abbie Hunt Bryce Home neighborhood on April 17th. "I told them that we pride ourselves on creating a home like atmosphere," stated a grateful Morning Light CEO Tom Fodor. "A big part of that is when you drive up. If there is trash all around, well, that doesn’t feel quite right." MSU Alumni President Paul Quirke (in group picture, kneeling at right front) had volunteered his fellow Spartans to pick up trash, gather old tires, and simply clean up litter that some Hoosiers had thoughtlessly discarded in the six block area off Keystone and 46th Street. When the few hours of work were finished, about three dozen bags were taken to a rented dumpster! Amazing but somewhat sad as well.
We are thankful to Quirke and the MSU alumni who worked in exchange for a few simple heartfelt thank yous! Educators, doctors, veterinarians, IT specialists and more all pitched in-some traveling from an hour or more away! We hope their example gives many second thoughts before they trash any area in our wonderful city!
Abbie Hunt Bryce Home residents are always in need of food and other household and living supplies. If you wish to donate, contact the Home at 317.860.0484.
