An Open Letter To Our Home Assistants

Any crisis reveals who is needed the most.

When the world was threatened by totalitarianism, an order was made to invade France. The Greatest Generation got it done.

When African Americans couldn’t even eat where they wanted to, brave people sat at lunch counters until the silliness of those laws became apparent.

When the Towers were struck, fire and police responded without a second thought.

Make no mistake- whether you realize it or not- you, our Morning Light Home Assistants, are functioning in a courageous, unprecedented role in this Corona virus outbreak.

There has never been anything like it. Believe me, I would know. My grandparents were born in the 19th century so I can go back a ways. In the year my mother was born, women in the US didn’t have the right to vote! I was born less than a decade after World War II ended. I even lived through 1968 when two national leaders were murdered. As I said-there has never been a challenge like this.

History has a way to putting us all in unique positions to serve.  I admire how you are holding down the front lines in this crisis. Very shortly you will be able to look back with pride that when everyone else was home, you were on the job because people who are terminally ill needed someone like you to comfort, feed and just be there for them. Yes, in World War II soldiers stormed the beaches. But women were in the factories and every American was making sacrifices that made that victory possible.

You are making this victory possible! You are the unsung heroes. Consider yourselves thanked!
